The Relais de la Poste is a family story that has lasted for more than a century. That of the Coussaus and Gascon cuisine. It all started in 1850 when Jean Coussau's great-grandparents acquired a small inn in Laluque. A few decades later, his grandparents also took over a grocery store-bar-restaurant in Herm, then his parents decided to continue the adventure by setting up in Magescq in 1952.
Bernard Coussau obtained his first star in the "Michelin Guide" with the Hôtel de la Poste in 1968. Jean joined his father in July 1970. All summer long, the Bernard and Jean duo worked hard in this small restaurant next to the Magescq post. Six months later (January 1971), the Michelin Guide rewards the family restaurant with a second star.
In 1972, the Coussau family decided to move into an old 19th century mansion which they transformed into a charming hotel-restaurant in June 1972 and the history of the Relais de la Poste started 50 years ago.
In 2022 after celebrating the 50th anniversary of two stars in the Michelin Guide in 2021, the Coussau family celebrates the 70th anniversary of its arrival in the village of Magescq and the 50th anniversary of the installation of the Relais de la Poste at 24 avenue de Maremne .
